About Us
The Autism Society of Southeast Wayne County was founded in 2007 by a group of volunteer parents to better assist families of children and adult with autism in the Downriver/Southeast area of Wayne County. The mission or goal of the Autism Society of Southeast Wayne County is that all individuals within the autism spectrum will be provided a lifetime network of opportunities to become fully accepted, included, and actively participating members of our community, through family support, education, and advocacy, and public awareness.

The Autism Society of Southeast Wayne County is strictly a volunteer organization. Most of the volunteers are parents & grandparents that understand what it is like to live with autism on a daily basis. We do not know all of the answers and most of us are not professionals in the field. However, we are here to be of support to you and your family.

The Autism Society of Southeast Wayne County is a not for profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Our funds for dissemination of information, workshops, conference, grants, social events, and more are derived from fund raising, private donations, Autism Awareness merchandise sales, and dues.

The Autism Society of Southeast Wayne County has accomplished many great things since receiving official chapter status from the Autism Society of America back in March of 2007 and will continue to do as much as we can in the future. We have sponsored monthly movie nights, weekly  ASD swimming lessons, weekly SIB swimming lessons, safety swim classes, weekly bowling leagues, monthly play/social group, and holiday parties at either a discounted rate or free.

We do not endorse or dismiss any specific treatment, professional, and/or service. We are a source of information and support to families of children and adult with autism.

We offer social opportunities for individuals with autism to be included in the community. We believe that all children and adults with autism are their own unique person and should be treated as such.
